Reel Women - Introductory video production course
This introduction to video-making covers the whole process of video production from the initial idea through to a finished film. The course is designed for women wishing to make their first step into video production. The six students will be given a written brief to produce a short documentary video that relates to the topic of International Women's Festival 2010. They will then work together to develop the documentary idea, shoot it on our digital equipment, and then edit the film with Adobe Premiere computer software. The completed video will be screened as part of the International Women's Week 7.00pm 12th March 2010 at OFVM.

Runs: 1st, 2nd and 3rd, 8th , 9th and 10th March 2010 10.30am - 3.00pm

Pre-Production:
DAY 1. Monday 01/03/10
Screening of previous course work and related films and videos. Introduction to video production and first look at the video cameras. Camera shot types and camera movements, developing ideas for shoot, discussing ideas on form, style and content. Shooting scripts and storyboarding. Further hands-on camera training.
DAY 2. Tuesday 02/03/10
The use of sound, looking at the various ways sound can enhance a video. Sound recording and practice with microphones. Basic lighting set-ups. Practice shoot with equipment and lighting. Finalise storyboards, shooting script, productions schedule and production arrangements for the shoot.
Production:
DAY 3.Wednesday 03/03/10
The group will go out onto location to shoot their production. During the shoot every member of the group rotates production roles, taking it in turns to direct, operate the camera, set up the lights and sound record, etc.

Post-Production:
DAY 4.Monday 08/03/10
Viewing of rushes, logging and creating an edit decision list. Introduction to the Adobe Premiere edit suite, digitising the picture and sound rushes, setting up your project and beginning the edit.
DAY 5. Tuesday 09/03/10
Finish the picture edit and begin the sound track make up plus adding graphics for titling.
DAY 6. Wednesday 10/03/10
Completion offline cut edit and final sound track mixing and making up of edit master. On completion there will be screening of the finished video in which the students will then be able to discuss the results with the tutor.
All work produced on this course will be screened at a special public event at OFVM on 12th March at 7.00pm
