Training

OFVM offers a programme of film and digital video courses - entry level to advanced - which run during the day, in the evening or at weekends. Click on each course below to get more information  including, dates, times, entry requirements and a detailed course outline.

All courses are subsidised for EU citizens (non-EU citizens must pay the full price). To book on a course go to book online in main menu on the left. We can now also accept card payments over the phone (01865 792731).

We now offer an OFVM Benefit Bursary Scheme as part of our Pathways into Industry initiative (level 1 courses are not eligible). This supports people in Oxfordshire on means-tested benefits who want to improve their skills on OFVM courses. All applicants need to fill in an application form and if accepted will be able to book any course for £30. There is usually a waiting list for most courses as there is one benefit place per course. Usually we only let people do a maximum of two courses on the benefit bursary scheme. Download application form here

Level 1

Taster courses. These adult leisure courses are suitable for complete beginners in digital video, photo editing and animation. They are run at an easy pace and no prior skills are required to do these courses.

Level 2 courses are also suitable for many beginners. In addition Introduction to Screenwriting on level 3 courses may also suitable for beginners but it has additional entry requirements (see that courses details).

Level 2

Suitable as a follow on course from level 1 or as longer and more demanding beginners courses aimed at those with a serious interest in filmmaking. Basic computer skills (e.g. email, web, word processing etc.) are required. The pace is more demanding than the level 1 courses, and students may be required to do preparation work outside of classes. The tutor will be very supportive throughout.

Level 3

Intermediate level courses aimed as follow on courses from Level 2, or students have completed similar courses elsewhere. However 'Introduction to Screenwriting' and is suitable as a beginner's course; but it does have conditional entry criteria. (See that individual course pages for details).

The pace on these courses is generally more intense and demanding. Depending on the course, students may have to more preparation and development work outside of class. Students will be expected to be motivated, self-driven and able to collaborate with each other.

Level 4

Advanced courses aimed at practicing filmmakers; both those working in the industry and those that aspire to do so.
