Who is this course for?

This course is aimed at artists, designers and developers who are new to Flash and want to get to grips with the user interface and learn the basics of animation and interactivity.

Assumed Knowledge

As this course is aimed at beginners all that is assumed is that delegates are familiar with computer use, the web, its terminology and how Flash is used within this environment. Drawing skills not essential. PCs and Macs are available, although you may not get a choice as to which you use. Turn up early!

What you will learn

You will learn how to use the flash design interface, create engaging graphics, text and animation; and build interactive content.

Please do bring any materials you’d be interested in working with along with you on Sunday. Bring content on a thumb drive or DVD/CD.

You are welcome to bring your own laptop as long as you have a fairly recent edition of Flash installed. Most machines at OFVM are running CS5, with a couple running CS4.

Please contact us if you have any queries before the course.

Sunday
Create a micro-site in Flash and personal project work – today’s your chance to put into practice most of the techniques you picked up on Saturday.

  1. Interaction: does the following scare you?
    function buttonClicked(event:MouseEvent):void {
           gotoAndPlay(2);

    }
    Good! Come and be unscared. Learn the secrets of interaction design with Actionscripting, put it to use outside Flash with Javascript on the web. Start to learn an essential skill for interactive designers and be a hit at dinner parties. Coders: this is not a programming course. Curly brackets will be harmed shamelessly during the making of your movies.

  2. Audio. Adobe Soundbooth (Audition with CS5.5) and Audacity are installed to allow you to edit sound files, and we have a selection of sound effects and background loops you can use.
  3. Video. Import video clips & export QuickTime movies for After Effects.
  4. Testing
  5. Publishing
  6. Where to go next: recommended publications, websites, the Adobe User Groups.
  7. Showcase – where we get a chance to see what each other has achieved over the weekend.
