Adobe After Effects – Post-production video effects
What is After Effects?
After Effects is Adobe’s® leading software solution for creating animation, motion graphics and visual effects.
What can it be used for?
While After Effects is sophisticated it is also versatile and can be used for a broad range of purposes from improving the quality of existing footage or generating new content from scratch.
For example, unwanted artefacts can be removed from a scene, new elements can be added and treated with special effects or text can typed and animated with customisable presets to create interesting titles fast.
Who is After Effects for?
After Effects is used by independent Producers to improve their own films, as well as ‘high-end’ specialists like Motion Graphic Designers, Compositors and VFX artists as an essential part of their software toolkit.
It’s also great for animators who need to need one package that lets them draw, animate and enhance footage.
What can After Effects be used for?
After Effects resolution is flexible so you can generate and transform moving images for delivery from the smallest mobile device up to movie theater screens.
Who is this course for?
This course is for both low-budget filmmakers who want to learn affordable tools, for transforming their own footage and those looking to explore animation, motion graphics, grading or special effects.
Some experience of a professional non-linear editing package (Premiere, AVID or FCP) is necessary, and a knowledge of Adobe PhotoShop is useful but not essential.
What will I learn?
You can learn how to treat the footage by ‘grading’ it and learn how to apply titles, motion graphics and visual effects. Participants will undertake a hands-on project designed to introduce all the essentials of this powerful package. Once students have completed this course, they will be armed with the basic knowledge to begin using and exploring After Effects on their own.
What if I don’t like the package?
The real benefit of this course is it’s flexibility. Even if you decide it’s not quite for you, the course will still give you a good overview of the package while teaching the fundamental principles of post-production visual effects.
This means that you will have a good foundation for either setting up your own VFX shots, knowing when to use it, working with freelancers or transferring your new knowledge of the principles to similar packages.
